Review of Coco Before Chanel (2009) by Lenard W — 27 Nov 2009
Similar in tone and content to "Bright Star" and "Amelia." But unlike those films, Coco was neither boring nor an ordinary biopic. It explores Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel's life before she became the style icon we grew up with.
Abandoned by her father, she is romanced by too men, a wealthy count and a self-made Englishman. The best scene occurs between these two men as they reach an accord for her affection. Tragedy strikes and Coco becomes a feminist icon.
Truly breathtaking in cinematography and costume.
