Surprisingly sad story of Coco Chanel before her rise to fashion fame, including her beginnings as an abandoned young girl forced to go to an orphanage, a later daytime job as a seamstress and nights working as a cabaret singer, aspirations to become an actress that never come to fruition, love that was never meant to be, and all the heartbreak and disappointment that foreshadows the rise of her empire.
Despite her achievements at the end of the film, it still left the viewer with a sadness that never seemed to leave throughout the film. Well done by Audrey Tautou.
