Review of Cocaine Cowboys (2006) by Chris W — 26 Jan 2008
A fascinating document of the rise of the cocaine empire in America through Miami. It demystifies much of the glitz and glam portrayed in the likes of Scarface and Miami Vice (although the Jan Hammer soundtrack is horrid), presenting the viewer with gruesome, often unsettling crime scene photos from the Miami drug wars while explaining the entire process from the Medellin cartel to Florida to the rest of the USA.
This a strong documentary only hampered by the same talking heads popping up and the 80's-esque editing job. If it was more modern and diversified, it might be the definite documentary on cocaine trafficking.
