Review of Clueless (1995) by Mimi S — 20 Jan 2014
One of my favourite movies ever! I love Clueless so much; it's a charming, funny and heartwarming comedy base on Jane Austen's Emma. Clueless is about 15 year old rich girl Cher (Alicia Silverstone), who although is selfish and superficial at times is well meaning and kind-hearted. Cher tries to do good deeds for others such as match making two of her teachers and taking new girl Tai (the late Brittany Murphy) under her wing and try to turn her into a popular girl and fix her up with the school hottie (Jeremy Sisto). However Cher faces her own dilemmas, especially in love. Clueless may not be Mean Girls but it's not a cliché high school film about nasty and bitchy girls and falling for the school stud and it's got a lot of warmth and heart. Alicia Silverstone is absolutely delightful and one of my all time favourite movie characters. Clueless is also really funny; Cher's high powered litigator father (Dan Hedaya) offers some of the best laughs. This film is vibrant, funny and touching with really good performances and some great lines! "As if" and "whatever" will also be classic lines. I feel that I could really relate to Cher at times and it was really refreshing to see a genuine and slightly flawed character who you can emphasize with. I love this film so much! It may not really appeal to guys, but girly girls will love this. You can't dislike this movie.
Grade: A*.
