Review of Cloverfield (2008) by Edd J — 05 Aug 2013
I didn't hate Cloverfield. I hated the marketing of Cloverfield. Remember how they kept the monster a secret to the point we suspected it was Voltron or Godzilla, and then on opening day we found out it was a pretty bland design? Wasn't that a kick in the balls? Godzilla shot guerrilla style is a risky move considering it would be nothing but human drama and f**king shaky cam during the monster destruction.
But Cloverfield really delivered on that, better than some regularly shot monster flicks these days and gave the thrills and unresolved mystery revolving around the creature. A towering film contained in handheld camera is no easy feat and Cloverfield pulled it off.
Just, hold the f**king camera still if you do a sequel. Which you shouldn't, actually.
