Review of Clouds of Sils Maria (2014) by Andrew A — 30 Jun 2015
Thanks to its location and the acting of its leads, Sils Maria manages to keep you intrigued through its two-hour runtime. At times, the editing threatens to send the beautiful shots into the land of cheap.
Fade outs from scene to scene feel as though they were quickly assembled as Final Cut Pro project. Other times, shots are disorienting yet mesmerizing to watch unfold. In one scene, Valentine (Stewart) struggles to drive winding roads on the mountainside; her perspective from the car is laid over this continuous shot.
