Review of Cloud Atlas (2012) by Another V — 10 Nov 2015
This is an epic story spanning multiple generations. It's thought provoking and in some ways confusing. What is the point? What is this story really trying to say? One might have to watch it a second time, if one has the patience, to try to figure it out. Good luck with that! That being said, I sort've liked it, although after I initially saw it, I wasn't even sure how I felt. Took some digesting to figure that out.
The most memorable story in this collection of stories across time and place, was for me the Asian girl who is an artificially created human, given no human rights, who begins to struggle for her right to live and to be recognized as a sentient being. Her story by itself, without the rest of the movie, is thought provoking and compelling. I enjoyed some of the other short stories as well. How they tie together is the tricky part.
It's really more a collection of short stories that have some kind of thread, and the audience gets the joy of finding how that thread pulls together.
I might have to watch it one more time, someday, to really figure it out. I'm guessing I'll have to watch it one more time after that, too. For now, it's on my to someday watch again list.
