Review of Closet Monster (2016) by William James S — 19 Mar 2017

Interesting take on the gay teen coming of age story that's saved from being completely mundane by some outstanding acting, especially from Connor Jessup, who is quite the gifted young actor. The story is told with a self-indulgent style that sort of works, and the addition of a sentient hamster that helps tell the story is cute and humorous but is ultimately distracting.

Beautiful photography of the eastern coast of Atlantic Canada adds to the overall texture of the story. Overall, it's not a bad film, it just sort of...is.
