Review of Closet Monster (2016) by Peter F — 18 Dec 2016
A very strong debut film for writer/director Stephen Dunn, that's an all-around subversive coming-of-age story. The film is endearing for anyone that's grown up an outsider, with star Connor Jessup being perfectly cast, but the film is more remarkable for its filmmaking.
An eclectic soundtrack and top-notch editing make Closet Monster consistently engaging, and easy on the eyes, and it will be interesting to see where Dunn goes as a filmmaker in the future. Some of the more quirky elements of the film undermine the drama, but Closet Monster is a pleasant surprise among this fall's indie releases.
