Review of Closer (2004) by Gillian D — 05 Jun 2011
There are somethings I observed about this movie. First, you can do a movie about sex well without actually having to do any sex scenes. Second, this movie actually made me not like Natalie Portman's character and I found her actually kinda gross.
Third, modern or post-modern relationships are disturbing, corrupt, and empty. Despite all the cussing, back stabbing, manipulating, crying, and selfishness, I didn't mind this movie too much. It is a movie that is based on dialog and since it is based on a play then it makes sense.
However, the dialog was not all that interesting or well written. The characters were not really that interesting or thought provoking. The movie was interesting in how it went about telling the story in disjointed time line and approach to relationship, love, and sex that shows how messed up the world and people really are.
I was expecting much more from this film and was disappointed on its delivery, but surprised at some aspects.
