One of the best screen adaptations (from a play) I've seen. The film established my love for Mike Nichols as an excellent director, proving himself once again to be the best at adapting movies from plays.

The cast is impeccable, playing off of one another excellently, however, it is ultimately Natalie Portman and Clive Owen who steal the show, emphasis on Portman. She sheds her 'good girl' image completely, holding her own against vets like Jude Law and Julia Roberts, even out-acting them in their scenes together.

It's a shame she didn't win her Oscar for this stunning character portrait, and ditto for Clive Owen, who probably has the toughest role. He's nasty, awful, mean, yet utterly sympathetic.
