Steven Spielberg's film was not an immediate success or blockbuster hit like his last film, 'Jaws' had been. Being released the same year as such films like 'Star Wars' and 'Annie Hall,' it was hard to recieve recognition.
But 'Close Encounters' shines through today as an extraordinary experiment in film making, recreating special effects and story telling methods, this film is one of those movies that everyone should see.
