Review of Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) by Michael E — 29 Dec 2010
1977 was certainly the year to be around for sci-fi fans with the release of this and another film which goes by the name of Star Wars.
Anyway, This is a fantastic Sci-Fi flick from Steven Spielberg, The version I watched was the directors cut which doesn't contain the highly unpopular Mothership ending. The accompanying score by John Williams works really well as it carries the plot through·out alongside remarkable special effects.
The last 30 minutes are the highlight, Mesmerizing cinema to say the least as Roy Neary [Richard Dreyfuss] goes beyond a close encounter and into the world of the unknown in which he had pushed all the boundaries and lost his family to achieve his quest.
This is a classic of the science fiction genre which has aged very well.
