Review of Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) by David R — 15 Nov 2013
It's a mysterious scifi film, like 2001: A Space Odyssey, but this has more characterization, and it feels more alive. However, it isn't quite as good because it has a more goofy feel to it, less like a scifi and starts to drift to something more like a thriller or a mystery.
It doesn't feel completely like a Spielberg film, it feels like Kubrick, with its long, cinematographical masterpiece of an ending. I enjoy scifi films more than anything, Close Encounters is great, even if it doesn't completely hold the suspense it had potential for.
