Review of Clockers (1995) by David A — 24 Nov 2009
"No More Packing.".
Having seen three Spike Lee joints before this one, I expected his films to get redundant...this was all together different though. While it does take place in New York's inner city, the film is told from the perspective of the drug dealers. It is primarily concerned with thier observations, daily struggles and thier persuasive influence over the youth of the neighborhood. Clockers is really about choices, family and community. One of the films biggest strengths is the big brother relationship between Strike and the young 12-year old boy Tyrone... The theme of escape is prevalent throughout Clockers as well, which is something we can all relate to no matter what color skin we have.
