Review of Click (2006) by Liam C — 03 Jun 2014

Click... What a movie. I miss Adam Sandler, I really do. Y'know it's his life and he can do whatever he wants with it but I watch a good comedy like this that actually does have some good lessons in it (even though I joked in my Grown Ups 2 review about not going into Sandler films expecting life lessons, should have stated that about his new movies), coupled with his brilliant performances in Reign Over Me and Punch-Drunk Love in the past, to see where his current career is at and it just makes me sad and confused to where it all went wrong.

The film starts off happily enough and it's all build up and some of it's predictable, even the ending might seem predictable, but before it gets there it does, surprisingly, pull a few heartstrings.

There's the usual gag humour which is prevalent in Sandler movies is present here also and it generally doesn't make me laugh up but coupled with the fact time can be paused and the characters silly faces when things are happening I did find myself chuckling.

The amazing thing about Click is even when it does get decidedly dark near the end it doesn't forget it's a comedy and has some funny bits to liven up the dark scenarios. Adam Sandler has some good range here too in his performance and one scene near the end never fails to move me to tears, I've seen this film 3 times now and I cry like a baby every time I see that scene.

To make me cry in a movie is something quite special and it deserves to be noted especially the fact that Adam Sandler of all people managed to do it. I know it's a cliche to say it considering it was given attention to with an Oscar nomination but the make up in this movie is really, really good, the scenes in the future with Adam Sandler when he's older actually look like he's older instead of being able to tell it's make up which just adds to the immersion of the movie.

This is a very good movie and forget the critics, they're usually always wrong anyway. I've seen Back to the Future multiple times and I don't even know how this was copying that. Even though it may seem like something else, it is an original concept, the remote gimmick is funny and smart and its a very good movie.
