Review of Clerks II (2006) by Liam K — 08 Aug 2010
12 years have gone by since the original cult hit Clerks was released in theaters, giving Kevin Smith a handful of films to either throw hits or misses before deciding to land onto the sequel to the iconic indie flick. Starting off with Randal accidentally burning down the memorable Quick Stop, we are flash forward to him and Dante a year later working at Mooby's, the View Askew version of McDonald's. Depressing might be the word I could use to describe the shitty jobs both Randal and Dante have, which makes the 19 year old nerd employee Ellias and the opportunity to constantly make fun of him kill 'valuable' time.
Rosario Dawson plays the sweet Mooby's manager that has a thing for Dante, leaving Dante conflicted with going for her or staying with his fiancée Emma, played by Smith's wife Jennifer Schwalbach. And of course, the iconic duo Jay and Silent Bob making their faithful return to NJ. Clerks 2 not only succeeds in making a delightful comedy, but also does it without trying to recreate the first one or do an adventure epic like Dogma or J&SBSB. Mr. Smith, you make me proud.
