Review of Clerks II (2006) by Prkprk P — 08 Feb 2011
It might be sacrilegious of me to consider any of Kevin Smith's films to top Clerks or Chasing Amy, but for myself, Clerks 2 is my favorite - and just a slight step above the rest - while I loved Clerks, Chasing Amy never really struck a cord with me.
I enjoyed the film, and the story Smith was telling, but I just didn't feel the connection between any of the characters as I did with his others, especially Clerks - both Clerks films are essentially A Day in the Life meets a coming of age story - where our central characters must face up to realities of growing up and becoming adults.
. in Clerks 2, it takes that same philosophy, and applies it to the dreaded L word, Love - Love between our significant others, and the love between friends. Clerks 2 struck a more personal cord with me than either Chasing Amy or the first Clerks film did - because I often times find myself struggling with the same inner and (some of) the exterior drama that Dante must face - except while mine is spread out over years, his seems to all come crashing in on one day.
I truly believe this to be Kevin Smith's opus.
