Review of Clerks II (2006) by Stephen L — 09 May 2013
Kevin Smith returns to where it all began with Clerks II, but he doesn't have much to say this time. After burning down the Quick Stop Dante and Randall get jobs at Mooby's, but they're still having issues getting their lives together.
Unlike the first film, Smith doesn't have any interesting or clever observations about the workplace. There's some funny satire and witty dialog, but overall the writing is rather weak. And, Smith takes the comedy to new levels of vulgarity and crudeness.
While there's a certain level of nostalgia in returning to these characters, Clerks II is a trite and uninspired effort by Smith to recapture the magic.
