Review of Clear and Present Danger (1994) by Matthew O — 30 Oct 2007
The second H Ford as Jack Ryan series, is a more solid effort, to the mixed efforts of patriot games. Which problems were the fact it was a hollywood film tackling irish political issues, and coming off as just a hollywood blockbuster despite trying to address european terrorism.
At the time was relavative and in the news. Clear and Present danger is a more straight forward affair. The old story of drug trafficing, with the twist of america taking action, in revenge to the drug barons, rather than Democraty to hand.
At the films release important, but now with 9/11 even more interesting (minus the drugs of course). Ford is on top form, and clear has the best set piece of the series, the breathtaking motorcade sequence.
The film loses it way and becomes less a political thriller than an all action picture towards the end. Still the two end up equally molded together for a strong 1990s thriller.
