Review of Clear and Present Danger (1994) by Marcus G — 05 Apr 2009
The second of Philip Noyce's adaptations of the Tom Clancy novels, this is certainly the best. This was still the days of Harrison's Fordâ??s, "Everyman" phase, when he was still, barely, young enough to carry off the ordinary action hero in extraordinary conditions persona.
The longevity of this film though, is its plot. Dealing with the U.S.A's attitude to the Columbian drug cartels, private wars and asking the questions of how far across the line do you go to stop something which is clearly a threat to your way of life, this is more poignant today than it was back in 1994.
Whist in many ways the film's production style is now looking a little dated, the plot isn't, the acting is good and the films sense of pace and poignancy is still strong. Highly recommended...
