Review of Clear and Present Danger (1994) by Ken S — 08 Apr 2012
Harrison Ford and Co. return to the Jack Ryan series for their second, and last outing. Ryan is appointed Deputy Director of the CIA when Vice Admiral Greer finds out he has terminal cancer (by the way, James Earl Jones has been great in the role since the series began in "The Hunt for Red October").
Ryan is stuck dealing with the President and a build-up to a war with the Columbian Drug Cartel in his new position, finding it difficult to deal with the political side of things. One of the things I like about the Jack Ryan character is that he isn't another slick 007-type spy, he is more on the "Intelligence" side of things, analyzing and investigating, and the action hero stuff is not nearly as graceful.
Theres a scene in which Willem Dafoe and Ford are walking over some rocks, and Dafoe moves like a pro, gracefully...then Ford as Ryan kind of awkwardly stumbles...he isn't a Field Agent, he's an office guy.
..but one of the best CIA office guys there is. Quality flick.
