Review of Clear and Present Danger (1994) by Matthew L — 23 Oct 2014
Picking up a few years after Patriot Games and the third adaptation of Clancy's novels to feature Jack Ryan. Certainly the lesser of the three films, but still a high quality film which just further highlights the excellent quality of the other films.
Personally the major factor that works against this film is that the villain isn't quite as memorable this time around. Sean Bean in Patriot Games and, although not technically a villain, Sean Connery are tough acts to follow.
I think that the change in direction for the films, America's Drugs War, rather than the 'Cold War' set 'Red October' and the 'Domestic Terrorism' of '... Games' is also a bold move.
After the misstep of the prequel 'Sum Of All Fears' it would be nice to see Ford return to the Ryan role, though I'd imagine chances are pretty slim with Ford slipping into solid support roles these days.
