Better than Patriot Games, as far as Tom Clancy movies go, but honestly, the writers/screenplay guys absolutely destroyed the book's version of the storyline. Everything is completely different in the book: in the actual novel several characters that die in the movie are alive, one of the villains in the film is actually a good guy, and Jack Ryan was never with Director Jacobs when he was killed, nor did John Clark ever try to kill him.

Oh yeah, and the whole daring rescue scene that took up the last like 20 minutes of the movie never actually happened. In the book, there was a massive firefight between U.S. troops and the cartel's soldiers, ending only when a Pave Low helicopter swooped in, miniguns blazing to extract the American guys behind enemy lines.

I know that directors often take creative license when adapting novels to the big screen, but these changes are ridiculous and unnecessary. At least the movie still remains entertaining despite the heavy editing, because Patriot Games' writers totally gutted it, and now I can't ever watch it again.
