Review of Clear and Present Danger (1994) by Peter N — 01 Aug 2012
The third entry (and second to star Harrison Ford) in the Jack Ryan film series is a good, but lacks the tension of the first one as well as the fast-paced action of the second. The book on which it is based is one of Tom Clancy's best, but naturally a large number of details and sub-plots had to be omitted in order to condense the film into a reasonable length.
However, the film stays complex and intricate, weaving a web of characters that come together in the end. Though the film suffers from slow pacing, and Willem Dafoe is horribly miscast as John Clark, it remains a solid political thriller.
