Review of Cleaner (2007) by Faith B — 24 Apr 2010
Cleaner is the ideal Blockbuster rental. Its got names in it, its kinda flashy and it's unlikely to trouble the grey matter. Renny Harlin has got to be one of the worst mainstream directors in Hollywood and some how he stilll gets work.
The set-up here is corny and the plot slight. Its obvious what's going on and who is doing it from early on. Only the heavyweight talents of Jackson and Harris, both just coasting here with an eye on a meaty paycheque, keep it buoyed up.
The side story with the daughter is trite and you just know she'll be involved in the climax somehow just to bring daddy and daughter closer together. So why three stars? Because it's enjoyably stupid and its nice just to switch off and watch something like this every once in awhile.
