Review of Class of Nuke 'Em High (1986) by Lovro H — 07 Nov 2015
After watching Poultrygeist and loving it, I decided to check out more movies from Troma, first being Class of Nuke 'em High. The story revolves around Tromaville high school that is built near a power plant.
There's a radiation leak in the power plant and a worker there was growing marijuana so the marijuana got infected and students who smoked it, got infected. That's sort of the story. I cannot really explain it.
Two kids who smoked the marijuana start experiencing some difficulties and the girl suffers a miscarriage and the baby is hiding in the school basement slowly growing. Yeah... There're also some school thugs, the Cretins, who are selling the drugs and who want to destroy the school.
It's very tough to explain this movie. Anyways... The acting is almost bad. It lingers between acceptable/decent and bad/unwatchable, but that's also what makes the movie fun to watch. The characters are okay, none really stick out, though.
The gore effects are awesome, when there is gore. That's the biggest problem I have with the movie. I know it was made in the 80s, but it's really annoying when there's something violent/disgusting happening and you only get to see it for 4 seconds before an abrupt cut to a different scene.
It's very tame, suprisingly. The soundtrack is weird, but good. There're constantly some punk/rock songs playing throughout the entire movie. All in all, an obviously cheap trash movie, but it has some pretty funny moments, great practical effects and a plot so strange and weird that you have to see it to believe it.
