Review of Clash of the Titans (2010) by Mikael H — 28 Apr 2012
I know this is a remake of an older movie, not of the actual myths all the names and the pantheon is actually taken from, but...really? As in the case of Troy, Hollywood thinks it can jazz the story up with a lot of American tropes....but in this case, the stories happen to be Greek myths that have survived for 3000 years. There's NO reason at all, story-wise, to even try to jazz that up, they have proven themselves powerful by virtue of surviving for that long. Needless to say, the Americanization of both movies totally butchered Greek culture and the characters of the myths they are based on, until the point that all we are left with is two dimensional American stereotypes.
Also...why does Worthington have the exactly same outlook (5 o'clock shade, crew cut) in this movie as he has in Avatar and Terminator: Salvation? Is this because he's actually playing the same character ? Maybe it's the cardboard cut out-hero-without-any-personality-at-all-look-of-the-decade? Yawn.
