Review of Clash of the Titans (2010) by Alex M — 20 Jun 2012
So-so. Amazing visuals, I even got past the incredibly ridiculous glowy outfits the gods wore...and the 3D wasn't gimmicky either, although some parts did seem very pop book like, maybe looking weird in some parts.
The story was pretty crappy, even though I like all the mythology of these characters, and am familiar with the orginal Perseus myth. I think the director took alot of liberties with the story, and while it really is a suped up(cooler and slick looking than the original) version, the hammy acting and lack of character development made the movie a bit boring, almost 1 dimensional.
Really liked Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson's performanes though, they carried the movie I think. Sam may have been the second worst performance, after the guy who played Calabos(ugh).
I will say this, the movie has a good pace for the most part...but the last 30 minutes, the story goes to shit and its all wrapped up in an incredbly rushed fashion, which weakens the film considerably.
I really liked the re imaginings of certain mythological creatures, and the director and art team did a fantastic job bringing them to realization.
And Gemma Arterton was rather awful in her part as Io. I dont know whether it was the piss poor writing of her character, or if it was her bland performance. She seemed too much of a plot device, and nothing about her character's behaviors had any motives or believability, so the audience was just wtf why is she there..
