Review of Clash of the Titans (2010) by Jonny B — 12 Apr 2012
While Louis Leterrier (director) may not have the best script to go with a well known Greek myth, some good acting from different parties and a fantastic performance from Mr. CGI visuals ensured that the estimated $125million spent were not put to waste.
Unlike numerous people who viewed the film in 3D, I happened to have seen the 2D version and with the complaints on the former's viewing I'm glad I opted for the latter. I was surprised because a movie with such outstanding visual effects I would have thought would have been a 3D sensation - apparently not!
Anyway in 2D the film was good. Sam Worthington is Perseus, a demigod who is chosen to lead a flock of men through horrific waves of enemies in a bid to defeat the dreaded Kraken. The whole scenario stems from Perseus' hatred of Hades (Ralph Fiennes) the God of the underworld as it is he who has unleashed this mighty beast.
Not the greatest plot as you may have guessed but there is more to it than that - it is not completely paper thin.
However, the visuals should be enough to make your view on the film positive as they are truly stunning; the acting isn't too bad either. The main characters are portrayed well but do lack a little personality and feel a little lick cut outs. Still, Clash of the Titans is a fine popcorn movie watch, despite its varied flaws.
