Review of Clash of the Titans (1981) by Peter F — 05 Aug 2010
For a movie called "Clash of the Titans" there really isn't any "clashing" going on. The gods bicker like politicians, the mortals just sort of walk about. perseus fights a few things here and there, then kills the medusa in a pretty boring fight. Then he uses her head to kill the Kraken. I just ruined the whole movie for you. That's it. Yet they stretch it on and on and on.
I don't really see why this was such a huge movie back in the 81. Apparently it was a big success. If you compare these special effects with those of earlier movies, such as 2001, Star Wars, Planet of the Apes, tron. It is really bad. If this was made in 1971, I could forgive it. Not only are the effects bad, but so is 90% of the acting. The only good acting was Maggie Smith.
I can only attribute the success of this movie through the years with nostalgia. I have heard that the new one is worse then this. That's a tall order. I will never be watching this again. Release the Kraken!
