Review of Clash of the Titans (1981) by Jordan K — 22 Sep 2012

If you trace back to my 2010 Clash of the Titans review, I said that this film was a "utter piece of crap". Well, it still is! I kinda get that the CGI was good for the time being, but watching it in 2012 gives a new look to it. There's pros and cons- a lot of cons- to the film, but before we get to that, let's take a look at the story.

It's just like the Greek myth and the 2010 version- A young hero named Perseus has to bring back the head of Medusa to the gods or else the princess of Jappa, Andromeda, will be sacrificed to an unbeatable creature called the Kraken, which looks more like The Missing Link from "Monsters Vs. Aliens". The story is a lot different than the 2010 remake and, unfortunately, is slow and really makes you wait for the good part. The adventure really doesn't kick in until around the 45 minute mark. Is this what I paid $7.99 for?

Anyway, here's the many pros and cons: I really hate Harry Hamlin, the actor who plays Perseus. His acting is terrible and he seems to whisper everything. Half of the movie has Hamlin looking confused- wasn't his afro confusing enough already? Secondly, half of the movie I was confused. I was asking myself "Why did that happen?" a lot. Everything seemed so bizarre, like if the writers of the film were drunk. Another thing I really found annoying was Bubo, the golden owl. I found it to be a ripoff of R2D2, with all of its beeps and whistles. It was trying to be cute and lovable, but I don't think, uh...golden owls...are supposed to be like that. And lastly and most importantly, the terrible, terrible, terrible special effects. A New Hope, made 5 years prior, had way better special effects! Why did the special effects suck so much? Almost every character was made using bad special effects. I find the Kraken and Medusa the worse. The pros were that I found this film easier to understand than the remake- I felt as if things were explained a bit better. So that's it. The reason I gave it only 1 star. I find that the other users don't agree with me, due to them finding the movie as a masterpiece. Some call it a classic, I call it CRAP! 'Nuff said!
