Review of Clash of the Titans (1981) by Roddy W — 10 Apr 2010
This is an amazing beautiful spectacle, with a stellar cast, and a script which gives equal weight to the gods and the mortals, something that is sadly missing from the remake.
Although Harryhausen's animation may look very low-tech to today's jaded palates, they have a period beauty of their own and should be respected not least for the amount of work that went into each second of claymation onscreen action.
Sadly, the Achilles heel in this film (to continue the mythological theme) is that bloody annoying clockwork owl which reappears briefly in the 2010 remake before being shoved into a cupboard and forgotten.
