Review of Clash of the Titans (1981) by Grant W — 07 Jul 2018
'Clash of the Titans' is not meant to be taken seriously nor intellectually. It is purely a Fantasy flick through and through where you do not question what it does and why it does it. All you need to know is that it is loosely based on famous myths and legends that continue to be passed down and told through popular media time and time again.
If you take my advice above, then 'Clash of the Titans' is a very entertaining adventure that will appeal to the kid in all of us.
I must also compliment the practical special effects master, Ray Harryhausen, as he bows out in impressive style. The animation on Medusa alone is enough to make me sick to my stomach. No, not from the scary presence of the ancient monster, but from seeing how each of her snakes are painstakingly animated individually. The attention to detail put into many of the special effects is quite a spectacle to witness considering they were done 37 years ago.
Get ready everyone for a classic sword, shield, and spells time!
