Review of Claire's Knee (1970) by Byron B — 20 Sep 2008
A pompous windbag is constantly reflecting on his flirtations with two young teenage girls with his novelist friend. This is yet again another male-desire-as-computer film that Eric Rohmer is inexplicably fond of.
The protagonist, played by Jean-Claude Brialy, brings to mind what Jonathan Rosenbaum said about Henry Jaglom--he "is so much in touch with his own feelings that he has little left to learn about.
..the human condition". That may or may not have been the point, but it sure makes for a dull treatment of sexual attraction and lust.
