Review of CJ7 (2008) by Aaron S — 16 May 2008
Stephen Chow recycles jokes from Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer, which is sad considering those movies are awesome and this one turned out to be a drecky, unorganized mess.
Some things bothered me. In a few places, the humor degenerates from cleverness to crudity (there's literally a toilet humor scene that goes on for way too long). Chow is also guilty of playing the "cute kid tugging at the heartstrings" card. The alien didn't do much for me either, seeing as Gizmo the Mogwai totally kicks the CJ7 alien's ass in the cuteness contest (and Gizmo's 20+ years old).
Come to think of it, the movie would have been better served if Stephen Chow left the alien out and stuck with humans.
