Review of CJ7 (2008) by Brian I — 17 Aug 2008
Horrendously painful. I'm a big fan of some of Stephen Chow's work and a huge fan of movies such as E.T, but this mix just didn't work for me. There's no denying Chow's amazing visual eye, but the tone of this flick is just off.
The sentimentality gets to such sickening levels it'd make Spielberg uncomfortable. It's a film that could only appeal to young kids, but given the vicious (and kind of irrisponsible) life and death lessons near the end, I don't think this was the case.
There's fun to be had, but machine gun pooing? Really? REALLY!?!?
