Review of CJ7 (2008) by Terry C — 20 Aug 2008
Cute family film from Chinese director Stephen Chow. His film's protagonists have always carried a central theme of being poor beggars overcoming all odds, but what I found surprising was how he told a comedic tale here that didn't require Hong Kong cinema's signature martial arts found in most of his films. He managed to craft a family film with a child who quite litterally steals the movie in my opinion.
In what Stephen Chow explains is direly needed in a country such as China was a family pop cultural childhood icon such E.T. here in the US or Japan's Totoro - China now has CJ7.
