Review of CJ7 (2008) by Justin A — 03 Sep 2008
I didn't really dig Chow's style when I first saw Kung-Fu Hustle, but Shaolin Soccer and Forbidden City Cop got me in the mood to reserve a rental copy of this. Chow's cartoonie slapstick really lends itself to this sort of story - think ET as a Shonen-themed anime - with exaggerated schoolyard bullying and comedic father/son arguments.
It is consistently funny (and outdoing itself), and surprisingly genuine and moving. I hope that Chow continues in the family feature market. For me, this is a must own... something to share with my son later on.
