Review of CJ7 (2008) by Gregory K — 02 Nov 2008

I believe I'm going to start off this review by making a bold statement...this movie was better than Kung Fu Hustle. Yes that's something I thought I'd never say but I enjoyed this movie way more than I enjoyed KFH.

..I'm not going into the reasons why I don't like KFH since I already did that in my review for that movie. My first complaint for this movie is, the same complaint I had for KFH...it's too freaking cartoony.

I feel that the cartoony style works much better in this film since it's supposed to be a kids/family movie and kids enjoy cartoony movies, so while I didn't like the style...I can understand how it would work better here than in KFH.

That being said, as I said I did enjoy this movie...CJ7 was pretty damn adorable...but I don't get why everyone in the movie was trying to kill the poor little guy...it's like Stephen Chow decided to show off the special effects and what they could do with the CJ7 so they pretty much abused him, which I felt was unnecessary and it actually made me feel sad for the poor 'space dog'.

The last 20-30 minutes or so of the film are huge downers *SPOILER WARNING*...the dad dies...then the CJ7 sacrifices itself to bring back the dad and then the CJ7 dies (he comes back to life though)..

.in the end everyone gets a happy ending, which I would agree WAS the best ending for this film. This is a pretty shitty review but fuck it...as I said I enjoyed this movie I had fun watching and I do believe it works much better as a family movie than a movie you watch on your own.
