Review of CJ7 (2008) by Camilo M — 21 Aug 2009
Well, I must say that this is a very disappointing film from Stephen Chow, since my expectation on and faith in him are really high. It's still a very ambitious attempt, but what comes out is something so normal.
I don't know Chow intended to make this film for kids, but it is. Not only the story but also characters are not original. You don't see many familiar faces in Chow's films (only Chi-Chung Lam), and what's worse, it's short and incomplete.
I don't know much of the process of making this film, but it seems like there were so many troubles in it - at least, I can feel that this is not what Chow at first intended to make in many ways. Because the story and characters are so normal, any other elements of film are normal, especially cinematography is not as exciting as the last two awesome films by Chow.
It is not a bad film, especially if you see it as a film for kid - it's just not as good as what I want from Chow. The kid actor is cute and does a good job, though.
