Review of City Slickers (1991) by Bretten B — 04 Feb 2012
What can I say about "City Slickers" that it doesn't say for itself? If you haven't seen it, you have to. Not very many western set comedies have been made, and this certainly is one of the best since "Blazing Saddles".
Set in 1991, this movie follows 3 best friends (Billy Crystal, Daniel Stern & Bruno Kirby) cattle driving in the west at an attempt to cling onto their youth. Their cowboy leader is the infamous Curly, played by Jack Palance (in which he won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor).
The movie is filled with one-liners from Crystal, constant jokes back and forth between Palance & Crystal and the way all three of the friends off-set eachother is so great. This movie is a great comedy, but there is also a lot of drama, and after watching it, one must ponder their life.
"Life is about one thing, when you find that one thing, the rest don't mean ****". A comedic and sad movie that surely will go down as one of the best in history. If you haven't seen it yet, grab a box of tissues, and be prepared to laugh and cry.
