Review of City of the Living Dead (1980) by Phillip M — 20 Dec 2008
Well, of the 3 of the "trilogy" that really isn't - this is the more straightforward horror movie.
You dont really have cemented answers as to why a priest hangs himself in a cemetery or why the final scene happens the way it does, or why Italians seem to like the name "bob" or why a little kid would be named "John John", but hey, nothings perfect.
The soundtrack is spot on typically eerie Italian movie-ish with its synthesizers and drum snare beats and no fade ins or outs transitioning from one scene to another.
The effects are actually the best I'd seen in a movie of this type in a long time. You have to respect a s-l-o-w realistic looking puke-fesr of entrails and blood. No, really; you do. Tip your cap when needed son!
