Review of City of God (2002) by Al D — 18 Feb 2012
One of the most astounding points to this film is how it does not try to play on your emotions. We see many forms of crime and violent acts take place that its purely sickening but we get used to this idea and it acts these events out in a normal, everyday manner.
1 life or 20 lives, its shown as something we can expect every single day in the City of God. The Direction is flawless and has already influenced filmmakers. The screenplay is astonishing and the performances are very real.
Overall, its the the way this film shows horrible events in the life of the City of God in a naturalistic manner that has its grasp on me.
