Review of City of God (2002) by Isaac H — 10 Mar 2012
Arguably the best edited film of the 2000s, City of God takes cinematography to a whole new level under Meirelles' taut direction. The movie does a phenomenal job portraying the hardship of life in Brazil's slums, and the narration adds a heartfelt sense of perspective from the main character (Rocket).
The movie flashes by with a heated sense of urgency, although the emotional payoff I was anticipating at the end failed to resonate, or leave a deep impact.
