Review of City of God (2002) by Kristin R — 20 Apr 2012
I saw this movie knowing nothing about it and it just blew me away. If you saw movies like Departed and felt like you saw the best gangster movie, please throw away your disk and watch this.
A story that unfolds in the slums of Rio told from the perspective of a guy whose life is invariably entwined with the happenings portrayed in the story. Great screenplay, unbelievably real characters (I hear they got real people from the slum for some of the roles) and the camera work is simply superb. A movie is made up of actors, plot , screen play, direction and it is really difficult to judge one movie as your absolutely best when one tend to see a lot of 'em. But Cida de Deus is one of the best movies I've ever watched and definitely in my all time top 10 right there with Schindler's iist and the likes.
