Review of City of God (2002) by Stefan G — 24 Mar 2014
It's very compelling movie that shows the struggles of what it took to live in the favelas in the 60's and 70's. This tale of the beginning of the gang wars in Rio is a solid movie at the worst.
It gives a portrayal of Lil Dice and his reign of terror that led to him being the drug lord of the Fevelas. The quite over the top gruesome portrayal is somewhat none essential, but this doesn't hurt the movie too much.
The acting is also a bonus isn't something to just gloss over. This is really the main reason I like the movie. The characters are real and the development of these key characters is refreshing. Overall I'm satisfied with the movie, but its really nothing new.
Just another movie showing the complexity of human nature.
