Review of City of God (2002) by Daniel C — 31 Aug 2014
Where do I begin with this film. City of God is a truly shocking yet true realism of life in the slums of the Rio de Janero. Based off actual events of a gang war and a photographer who just wants to get away from the war and just live, this film is a portrayal unlike anything I have seen before.
I simply loved it .It's gritty, raw, compelling and turns the dial up on unsettling images of kids not even 10 years old killing, doing drugs, robbing, stealing, believing to be a man, etc. The further into the story you go,the less the director holds back and in this movie it works with resounding emphasis .
It is one of the greatest movies I have ever seen.
