It's true there are a lot of things to be questioned here as it is a sci-fi movie you should expect for none of those things to be answered. I really enjoyed the movie. It was light, innocent and it was adventurous.
More could probably be said in one film but I think that the simplistic story surrounded by a highly stylized fantasy world was the major draw for the City of Ember.
