Review of City of Ember (2008) by Yannick F — 24 Apr 2009
While it's ultimately a failure as a movie, I'm deeply smitten with its production design. The idea of an isolated society running out of resources is a striking premise, and the sets and props tell the story far better than the script.
For instance, the headquarters of the foot messenger service is a room littered with piles of old rotary phones and long-abandoned switchboards. If you liked the eye candy aspects of City of Lost Children, Dark City, and Bioshock, you'll find something to like here too.
